1 in 5 children in Britain have never seen the ocean. It’s worrying to think that the destiny of the ocean is in the hands of a generation who feel little connection to it. As Aldous Huxley said, "We can only love what we know". Volvo's new film follows Tom Franklin as he continues with his mission to help the next generation fall in love with the sea.
The five-minute documentary-style spot, focuses on Tom, a London school teacher who discovered that several kids in his classroom had never seen the ocean but he had been encouraging them to save it. In the film, Franklin takes students to the coast of Cornwall where he grew up and we see their joy as they experience the ocean for the first time. The campaign highlights Volvos commitment to sustainability and efforts to address the plastic polution of the ocean with this beautiful, thought-provoking film; a collaboration with UK broaddcaster, Sky Atlantic.
Volvo has announced plans that by 2025, at least 25% of plastics used in their cars will be recycled material and they committed to removing single-use plastics from its offices and events by the end of 2019.
