That’s why BCP Bank creates SOS POS — turning payment terminals into emergency lifelines, letting anyone block their bank accounts instantly.

In Peru more than 4,000 phones are stolen every day. In just minutes criminals drain the bank accounts of people who can least afford to lose them. To solve this problem every bank has an emergency line. But the question is, how can you call your bank when you no longer have your phone?

That’s why BCP Bank, the largest bank in Peru came up with the solution: SOS POS turned everyday payment terminals at small businesses across the country into emergency lifelines, letting any costumer block their bank accounts instantly with no calls, no apps just entering their ID number and PIN on the POS keypad.

Mobile phone theft was putting customers’ savings and credit lines at risk, turning a stolen device into a threat to their financial security. Our objective was, within the initiative’s first 120 days, to protect customer assets whose value met or exceeded 75 times the cost of implementation. To achieve this, we shifted the focus from measuring transactions to measuring the real value protected, making customer security a driver of both trust and business growth.

Mobile phones have become the primary tool for managing money. Yet in the event of a theft, customers lose not only their device, but also their ability to act when every second counts. We identified a contradiction: security protocols required customers to use the very device that had just been stolen to protect their accounts. The problem wasn’t the lack of security solutions, it was the inability to access them without a phone. This led to a simple insight: when your phone is stolen, you lose the only tool that can immediately stop criminals from draining your digital accounts.
